FAQs

What animals do you see?

We see farm animals such as horses, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and any other farm animals. We do not offer medical services for dogs or cats.

Do you see emergencies?

I will see farm animal emergencies if I am available. If your dog or cat has a life threatening illness, they need to be seen by a regular clinic. Please see our emergencies section on our services page for more information.

Can you offer all of the services that a regular clinic offers?

No, I cannot offer hospitalization like a regular clinic. I do not have the same equipment or prescription availability that they offer in a clinic setting. If your pet has a life threatening illness, they may need to be seen by a regular clinic.

Does a mobile veterinarian cost more?

Mobile veterinary practice does typically cost more than a regular vet clinic. There are added travel/house call fees since we come to your home and the cost of medicine is higher.

Why should I use a mobile vet?

It can be more convenient for you if the vet comes to your home. You don't have to worry about the car ride or interactions with other pets at the clinic. Some pets are anxious and fearful in a clinic setting, but are happy to have the vet visit them in their own home. My appointments last longer than what a clinic can offer and I can spend more time working with your pet to make them more comfortable and be able to answer any questions that you may have about your pet.

Can only a vet perform acupuncture?

While anyone can claim to perform acupuncture, veterinary professionals are the only people certified to perform acupuncture on animals. They go through rigorous training for an average of 6 months to learn about acupuncture, how it works, and how to stimulate acupoints correctly.

How many treatments does acupuncture or medical manipulation take?

The number of treatments depends on the pet's disease and how chronic it is. Most pets typically show improvement in 3-6 sessions. Some pets may need a session every couple of months to stay comfortable while others may not need a session for a year or more after their initial disease is managed.

What should I expect from my first session?

Most pets do well with both acupuncture and manipulation. Expect the session to last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Most pets act normally after their session. Some may be more tired or may appear to get worse for 24-48 hours and then start to improve. When either service is performed by a trained veterinarian, there are very few potential side effects.

My pet is already on a daily medication. Will acupuncture interact with the medication?

Acupuncture will not affect your pet if they are taking medication daily. It is safe to pair them together. Sometimes, I may prescribe an herbal supplement. They typically do not interact with most medications, but I will help you monitor your pet to make sure they do not suffer from potential side effects. Depending on the medicine that your pet is taking, sometimes we can wean them off that medication and maintain them with acupuncture and herbals. Contact me for more information.
